This cordless insect vacuum quickly captures bugs from up to 2' away. Flies, bees spiders and other insects are suctioned by a 22,400 rpm motor, sending the insect through a one-way valve in the extension tube to an electric grid in the handle that instantly kills the pest. The extension tube removes to place dead bugs in the garbage, shutting off the electric grid in the process to protect curious fingers from electrical shocks or burns. Hatfield My wife and I ordered 2 of these for our heavily mosquito infested property in South Carolina. We put in the batteries and commenced the war against the flying vampires. We decided to grill some chicken and eat on the patio, and before we were finished with our salad we had dozens of the little blood suckers flying all around us. We then went inside the house, leaving The Vortex insect traps running on the table, in the dark, for 2 hours. They caught exactly 1 mosquito. 1! Lovitt There may be other bug vacuums more powerful than the "Bug Wand." I can't recommend this particular product because it doesn't perform as advertised. We tried it out on Asian beetles (the ones that look like lady bugs but bite people), spiders, a house fly, and a few gnats (no-see-ums). It worked for the gnats, but we had to knock the rest of the bugs into the tube because they clung to the wall, ceiling, or web and refused to be sucked in. I don't think I'd go after a bee or wasp with the Bug Wand, as I wouldn't want them to lose their temper while I was trying to knock them into a 1.5 inch diameter, two-foot long tube. The directions on the Bug Wand box end with, "So the next time you discover creepy crawlers in your home, just wave a (Bug) Wand and make them disappear!" Yeah, right. 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. great bug-catcher By Judith Milgram This doesn't seem like it would do much with it's wimpy vacuum, but it's very effective on the crawling sort of bug because they don't see the tube. Put it facing them head-on if possible, turn it on and you'll likely catch the spider or silverfish, etc. Even some less jumpy crickets. Haven't tried it with flies, doesn't seem likely to work. What I especially like is that captured insects aren't hurt and can be released outside unlike with the much more expensive similar bug vacs. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Didn't catch a single bug of any type. Next night turned it on again-nothing AND stopped running after about 2 hours. I can't afford batteries every day for something that doesn't work. The insect trap worked for a while with the blue light coming on. Kochel The other reviewer gave it a great review, but perhaps I got a bad one, because it doesn't suck. I find I have to pretty much scoop the bugs up with it, unless they are something light with big wings (like a moth), in which case it will suck them up. I have seen ones that work well, but I don't know if the brand and/or make are different with those one. However, while some maybe great, the one I got wasn't, too bad. I hope that Dyson company makes on soon and they use the power at their disposal to make a super powerful one that can suck up a nest of killer bees, or a fly across the room, but until then I live in fear of both.
