I have had it for a month now and not a single zap. Not even at night when it is the only light source. There is also no way to clean dead bugs out of the unit but this is ok because it is no more than a night light. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. OK for medium and small bugs in the right place By Richard M Estel I bought this for my elderly mother, who lives right at the edge of a tiny town, and has a parade of bugs across the living room all summer. The unit is a bit heavy for a person with declining hand strength, and the handle is a bit too thick. It would be better if it had some type of grip where you put your hand through an opening. It works OK for small and medium size bugs on the floor or wall. Mother has lots of cellar spiders, and it's hard to capture them, because they build webs where the wall meets the ceiling. The webs also get into the unit. She also had an attack of ants, but again, they tend to make their trail in hard to get at places. They also invaded the kitchen counter, but it's awkward to use the unit at that height. The big problem is that it does not kill larger bugs. I left the unit with her for a week, and she picked up a black widow. When I opened the unit, the spider was alive and well, and had made an egg sac. I tried it on some large bugs that invade my home each summer - so-called "water bugs," but I think they're a member of the cockroach family. It picks them up fine, but does not kill them. So analyze your needs before you buy. If most of your bugs are on the floor, and you don't care if the unit kills them or not, it should be OK. Also consider your hand strength and ability to grip the fairly fat, tapered handle. 164 of 171 people found the following review helpful. I hate spiders By JC_WA I hate spiders. If I see one inside, I can't let it leave it my sight without killing it. People tell me to catch them and let them go outside. That makes no sense to me - they always come back. I didn't have much hope for this but thought I'd give it a try. So far I've encountered 3 spiders over the past 2 months - 2 fairly large spiders, and one small one. Each time the bug vacuum easily sucked the spiders up and - this is the best part - electrocuted them. Two of the spiders were sucked in and dead within about 2 seconds. The other kind of hung around on the wall for a few seconds with no way to get away, then violently flew into the vacuum and was shocked to death. If you turn the vacuum on and off a few quick times after the bug's been sucked in (and likely already dead), you'll see little sparks shoot off the bug's carcass. It's easy to use and there's no splatters left on the wall. Don't listen to anyone who tells you spiders are our friends. That's what they want us to think. They all need to die, and this is the perfect weapon. I'm doing my part - what about you? 77 of 79 people found the following review helpful. I am embarrassed that I bought it! By waynedoc I bought this bug vacuum with low expectations; it is even worse than I expected. We had hoped to use it for the occasional stink bug. It is bulky with a massive charger. Its vacuum power is best described as a gentle breeze. The best way to get the bug in the device is to kill the bug using another device, pick up the bug and drop it in the bug vacuum hole. I have not written an online product review on Amazon before; this product is so bad I felt compelled to warn others! See all 147 customer reviews...

EMERSON BUG ZAPPER By SilentWarriorBear This unit [Emerson Indoor/Outdoor Cordless Rechargeable Bug Zapper] sucks big time ...When it worked it did the job very well ... The light started flickering very shortly after I received it then burned out ... It cannot be replaced ... Oh by the way CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY WOULD ''BE SENDING A NEW UNIT'' but I never received it ... This only compounds shoddy equipment by a lying customer service ... My recommendation is to stay away and look at plug-in-the-wall units that you can replace the light (source) ... DON'T BUY THIS UNIT !!!! ... IF YOU BUY IT YOU'LL BE SORRY !!!!! 24 of 26 people found the following review helpful. The problem with these zappers is new bulbs are TCLP compliant and don't attract bugs anymore By WPL This Emerson zapper looks (from the picture) just like the old Sunbeam zapper. I've had a couple of the Sunbeam zappers for years. They worked better than anything else of that size in the house. I kept them on all the time because they catch little bugs that you don't know are there. I would clean the dead bugs off the wires every day, usually 5 to 10 little bugs a day. These lights were very valuable in alerting me to infestations of little, tiny beetles. One day I'd see a couple of the tiny beetles caught in the light, and then the next day a few more, next day more... Then I realized I must have a problem and I'd search around everywhere until I found the source of the infestation. Without the zappers the infestations would have gotten a lot worse before I would have realized that I had a problem. But, on the downside, the bulbs (F4T5/BL) don't last too long, only a few months, AND, the bulbs are a pain to put in or take out of the unit. You have to take the unit apart and mess around with it. Now, the last batch of F4T5/BL replacement bulbs I bought did NOT work in attracting bugs. The only difference I could see in the new bulbs was a little TCLP printed on the bulbs. This means the bulbs are TCLP compliant, which means they are more environmentally friendly (have less toxic elements I suppose), but they don't attract bugs anymore. With the old bulbs I used to have to clean the bug zappers every day and with the new bulbs the zappers don't need to be cleaned for weeks. I discussed this problem with my supplier and he said that mine was the only complaint he had and that these were very popular bulbs and he sold a lot of them, especially for nail drying, and if there was a problem that he would have heard about it fast. But they don't work for me. I wonder if all manufacturers are being forced to move to TCLP Compliant bulbs? If the bulbs don't attract bugs then these zappers can't work. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Alright but not worth the money By justme The bug zapper worked for about a day and then just didn't charge right. Contacted the company and they were pretty responsive as they arranged a switch and actually sent me 2 in its place. Since then, one of the chargers has failed to work. The product actually works on small flying insects but we were still getting eaten alive in the backyard with the zappers right near us. See all 25 customer reviews...
